Slow Regulatory Process of Islamic Finance Curriculum

Jakarta -- There are many higher learning education that already initiating and running the Islamic Finance Program in this country, yet the endorsement from the Indonesian Government through the Department of Education affairs and Department of Religious affairs, in which both institutions that should work together in preparing, supervising and monitoring the Islamic finance program at schools or universities, has not sign any green light for any draft of the standard Islamic finance program.

The slow progress of these two institutions is perceived by the Ikatan Ahli Ekonomi Islam Indonesia (IAEI) as the obstacle for the growth and development of Islamic finance education program here, in Indonesia.

“We perceived that it is time for our government, especially Department of Education and Religious affairs to speed up the process of setting out the Policy since almost all higher learning institutions already established the program,” as explained by the general secretary of IAEI, Agustianto to KBES in Jakarta.

On the other hands, said Agustianto, in other provinces there are some education institution associations that are willing to set the Islamic finance program as their main subject of their Education program. Therefore there is no need for the government to delay its policy for Islamic Finance program.

As of today’s development of Islamic finance program, it is apparently, Department of Education and Department of Religious Affairs have shown a very little responds pertaining to the Guideline of the Islamic finance curriculum. The Department of Education is still considering whether the Policy is to be endorsed by Department of Education or Department of Religious affairs. In so far our Department of Education has been introducing Islamic finance eduction program through conducting of workshops and evaluation of the development of Islamic finance education program’s development.

in the meantime, Department of Religious affairs has already shown its appreciation by publishing Islamic finance education books to be used for students in highschools/ vocational schools.

”We hope that both Departments could synergies in determining a good policy pertaining to Islamic finance education program, ” said Agustianto.

IAEI has offered some collaboration effort to the government in assisting the formula of the Islamic finance curriculum that can be applied to all level of educaion.

”IEAI is ready to co-ordinate with all parties in establishing the Islamic finance education program, ” exclaimed Agustianto. (Agus/nibra)
